- About us
Part of Winton since 1907.
Founded by Thomas Walker, family-owned since 1999, and now run by pharmacist Madeleine Miles, who took over from her parents in 2024.
A family pharmacy
Pharmacists Michelle and Geoff Carleton bought Winton Pharmacy from Peter Burdon in 1999. They already owned Carletons Pharmacy in Otautau, which had belonged to Geoff’s father, and ran both until 2003. When they couldn’t find a pharmacist for Otautau, they turned it into a depot and dispensed its prescriptions from Winton, as we still do today.
Having raised their three daughters in Otautau, Michelle and Geoff built the pharmacy around looking after the people of Western and Central Southland. Michelle, who first worked here after qualifying, added new services over the years. She became an independent vaccinator in 2012, completed an advanced diploma in nutrition, and set up INR testing in store.
In April 2024 their daughter Madeleine took over. A clinical pharmacist, she came home to Southland with her family and loves the idea of a family-run local business.
