Emergency contraception (the morning-after pill)
The morning-after pill works best the sooner you take it. Come straight in: you don’t need an appointment, and the conversation is private.
What it is
Postinor-1, often called the emergency contraceptive pill or the morning-after pill, helps prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It needs to be taken within 72 hours, and the sooner you take it, the more likely it is to work.
It’s estimated to prevent 85% of expected pregnancies. It doesn’t prevent every pregnancy, and it isn’t meant to be used as regular contraception.
How we can help
For your safety, one of our pharmacists will ask you some questions in private to check it’s right for you, then supply it as if your doctor had prescribed it.
Ongoing contraception
If you’d like regular contraception, our pharmacists can also prescribe certain contraceptive pills.
What happens when you come in
Ask at the counter
Say you’d like to talk to a pharmacist. You don’t have to explain why in front of anyone.
Talk it through in private
We’ll ask about your symptoms, your health and any medicines you take, so we know the treatment is safe for you.
Leave with treatment, or a plan
If it’s suitable, we’ll treat you there and then, as if your doctor had prescribed it. If not, we’ll explain why and help you get the right care.
